The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has stepped down as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that questioned her eligibility to occupy the role.
Acceptance of Resignation
US Attorney General, the Attorney General, confirmed Habba's resignation on Monday. Bondi stated that the appeals court finding made it unworkable for the official to lead the department effectively.
"Do not interpret adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "The effort will now extend throughout the country."

Her resignation follows closely on a US appeals court determined that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This decision is expected to impact many prosecutions in New Jersey.
The judicial panel said that a temporary posting that did not receive Senate approval ran afoul of the federal law governing appointments.

It was also stated that the former prosecutor will remain at the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. She will pursue additional appeals of the court's action, with hopes of a reversal.
Writing online, she wrote that judges "should not be able to override the appointment of prosecutors entrusted with performing the executive branch's core responsibility of prosecuting crime."
Performance in Office
The attorney general praised the prosecutor's work and pointed out that while she was in charge, the city of Newark saw a significant drop in criminal activity. She also stated that the city of Camden experienced its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 free from homicides.
Background and Previous Role
The 41-year-old attorney, was initially recruited to the former president's legal defense in 2021. She went on to defended Trump in his hush-money trial in New York last year, leading to his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.
