Both Deceased Students Identified in Brown University Incident as Law Enforcement Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the recent tragic incident on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, the group said. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow on social media, saying in part: “There are no words. Remembering her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 detained in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”
