Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
