England's Coach Southee Uncertain on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's most recent Test for the Kiwis was against the English side in the final month of 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The ex- Kiwi seamer is only likely to be available for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.
Commenting as the English team for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, he said of his participation: "We're still working through that at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the coming days."
England bowling legend Stuart Broad had declared the Australia side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the series, which begins on November 21.
"In my view there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," he remarked.
"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [the English] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, prior to the English team travel to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
