Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
