Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
