The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
