The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and player-driven missions," reads an official release.
Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the nation into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions rise, transforming the city into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. This is where the agents come in.
Work on the game has been underway for about several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, specifically in North America. Manufacturing will start immediately following the fundraiser, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules confirms it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical style. Agents leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, typically from one to five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, participants select a single “result die” from the pool.
- This dice is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Rolling a perfect 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness
Battles prioritize placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to reward coordination and smart positioning over raw numbers.
A Novel Wound System
The way injuries is tracked adds a interesting narrative layer. Operatives have a injury limit; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an agent collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
- They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
- Any player knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a pre-made introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup will be unveiled closer to the campaign launch.
