The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
