The Gory Animated Film Ending That Stays With Viewers
Out of every adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever watched, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced ending of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spanish filmmaker developed a dark, melancholy , often savage universe that included some tiny , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a drive to expand animation further, the filmmaker stated that it was rather an effort to communicate a global, cross-cultural message regarding “the common origin of every conflict.”
That message is expressed via a group of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously modeled after a well-known line of lovable figures.
Maturing in a community built around aggression and the defense industry, a lot of the bears are fixated on exterminating the mythical beasts, because of a religious scripture that claims them they used to be masters of the forest, before the horned beings drove them out.
A few have not completely bought into the indoctrination, and choose to sample substances or fornicate in the forest.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these colorful critters have visible sexual organs , definite sex drives.
For a certain particularly cruel, cynical bear, Bluey, the war with unicorns transforms into a route to power — and specifically to authority over his more tender, nicer brother Tubby.
This bear acts as a tormentor , a seeming antisocial figure , and as horror overcomes his unit and takes his comrades one by one, he seizes increasingly power personally, in increasingly violent, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, the unicorns are suffering their own nightmare, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their habitat.
“Initially, it seems like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “But then it evolves into a more intense and melancholic movie. And by the end, it becomes a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars commences resembling among the quirky films from a renowned filmmaker, that discover a naughty glee in permitting animated figures curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it becomes more akin to a more grim movie by that same creator, with increasingly visual gore , a palpable link to genuine tragedy of conflict.
In the finale, it becomes a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.
The horror that makes this a Halloween-friendly movie kicks in well before than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated fans of gore, for lovers of extreme cinema who wish to see a film they’ve never seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative that pulls no restraint.
View it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the conclusion will dig under your skin and stay with you.
