The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
