The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
