The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
